Talk on the topic of "Assays and workflows for molecular degrader discovery"

April 2026

"Targeted Protein Degradation: Drugging the Undruggable" was the title of the Paul Martini Foundation's workshop. In April 2026, numerous renowned scientists gathered at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences to present on this important topic. Dr. Johanna Huchting from the Hamburg site of the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP was also on site and provided insights into her current research in frame of Cluster4Future PROXIDRUGS.

In her talk "Assays and workflows for molecular degrader discovery", she discussed AI-supported drug screening for Targeted Protein Degradation. For Targeted Protein Degradation (TPD), automated high-throughput assays (e.g., FRET), high-content imaging, and cell painting are used to reliably test degradation mechanisms. In addition, iPSC models of the blood-brain barrier and AI-supported data analyses help to make translation into the clinic – for example, in neurodegenerative diseases – safer and more efficient.

The video is now available on the Paul Martini Foundation's website and is accessible to all interested parties. The link below leads directly to the talk: Workshop der Paul-Martini-Stiftung 2026

How Fraunhofer ITMP applies Quantum Computing in Drug Discovery

July 2025

German only. © Fraunhofer ITMP and CML

In an increasingly complex and data-driven landscape, the demand for innovative solutions to optimize processes is growing rapidly.

Against this backdrop, the Hamburg Fraunhofer Institutes (Fraunhofer CML, IAP, IAPT and ITMP) have joined forces to address relevant industrial applications with the help of quantum computing.

Fraunhofer ITMP uses quantum computing to accelerate core phases of drug research. In this movie and a white paper (both German only), we explain the basics and how we have used quantum algorithms to better predict the molecular properties of drug precursor molecules.

Time lapse: Construction of Fraunhofer ITMP building shell in Frankfurt

September 2023

On September 1, 2023, the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP set an important milestone for the research landscape in Hesse with the topping-out ceremony of its new building on the Niederrad campus of Goethe University Frankfurt.

Experience in 45 seconds how a modern research institute is being created from an empty plot of land. The new building of the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP becomes more real every minute.

Honorary Doctorate for Prof. Jennifer Dressman

October 2021

The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) awards honorary doctorates to researchers whom the University wishes to honour for their scientific work. As part of the annual University Celebration on October 29, 2021, Fraunhofer ITMP employee Prof. Jennifer Dressman received an honorary doctorate from SDU's Faculty of Science for her work on the pharmaceutical ecosystem.
